Dragon's Egg - Act IV

Philster401

Scribal Lord
"Ok, thank goodness, I can finally get out of this armor It's hot and in here," he says then he pulls down his chain coif revealing his dark brown hair (and a handsome face I guess) to the sunlight.

"Baldhart, I asked if we should bring the knife and book to the caravan to see if any of them have any knowledge of them I think you might forgot so, what do you think?" He asks trying to be polite about it.

"Also I think we are out of reach of the kobold so, you meantioned things that you didn't want them to know?" He asked seriously.
(Two questions 1) what time of the year is it 2) how should I get out of my armor I don't think it would be proper for me to change in front of ladies but also I don't think traveling in armour is plausible.

"I haven't forgotten… it's that we have plenty who would like to see that knife, and learn of the fate of those souls. Nissa was able to learn a little. At the very least, I'm confident that there are not souls in the knife, but that killing an innocent with the knife extracts life energy."

Confident is a poor choice of words.

I keep my voice low—and make sure the children do not hear these words: "At least I hope the child's soul was set free in death. Bad enough to die young, but to be robbed of the afterlife? Even the evil ones, who deserve eternal torment… they have their evil gods to accept their souls."

The thought of that knife being a portable hell for the innocent…

"Nissa needs a good, long study of it. Her and anyone else fit to make sense of it."

"Okay well I can say that, something felt incredibly wrong with this knife when I touched it." He says then whispers, "I have to agree to be killed then trapped in this blade most be like a living hell, and before you ask if I believe in a after life, yes I do, and I believe that Gods are real I just don't follow any, at least not anymore." He states then touches his right arm.

Then when he realized what he was doing he put his arm down and said in the same low tone, "What about the book?"

"We know the drow could read it," I say. "I imagine it's a book of spells, though I can't make head nor tails of it myself. At least not yet." I wonder if further study might enable me to decipher any of it. "I'll need time to look it over again, and possibly help with that."

"Oh, don't get me started on splitting up. We got into a bit of a mess just before you came.

"I think I would like to catch the caravan if we can, but if Tarlack knew of it, it's had plenty of time to move. If it's heading to Ballara—which seems likely based on our map—with luck, we'll catch it on the way.

"But if you want to increase the odds, we can keep the rest brief, finish healing up, and only stay here long enough for a quick funeral and a change of clothes for the kids. A bite to eat is in order, too."

((The party is southeast of Ballara, 5 days travel from Arendal, which I guess is between Melar and Ballara where the dark green and light green meet. That's a very rough estimate based on Drimmen Delve being 2 weeks from Arendal. I could be a bit off. Or way off.

For the healing, I think Zoran and Baldhart are down 3HP, Bressel is also down 3HP from the lightning, plus he and Liadan each took 1 or 2 damage from sleepy bolts. Cadell fully healed Nissa! I think we can just use magic and by the time SP's back, we could move ahead enough to have all of our HP and MP full.))

As we near the farmhouse, I see Nissa in flight and Dalla and Biorn readying Llucheden.

(We already healed I think I know I healed someone a little bit a while back, and no one has taken any damage since... I think.)

(Actually I know someone light healed me a roll of 6 not exactly sure how much that healed me though.)

"I believe we should stay together as much as possible. We could have lost half our group if things did not turn out just right.
So let us move on."

I lay out (or accept help laying out) the bodies--Miss Liv, the two boys, the girl. I cover them in old sheets, and give the children time to say their last goodbyes and pay their respects in their own ways. It's hard to watch. Just children. What cowards can take any pleasure preying on these little innocent ones?

I pray aloud, "Brynhild, may your valkyries guide the souls of the departed to their place of eternal rest." Prayers for success in hunting down every last one of Aeron's child-killers and ripping them apart, I keep to myself. Same with prayers that the girl's soul will be freed from the knife, though a naive part of me prays that's not possible. If she's in the knife now, no sense praying the fact isn't a fact.

An immortal soul cannot be destroyed. That is a fact.

I step back to allow others to say some words, those who want to. If no one is interested, we'll let the fire consume the bodies. Maggots gotta eat too; we left plenty of bodies for them.

"I promise to find out who created this blade and if the creator of this blade is still alive go and question why he created it and how to release your soul if it is in this blade." He says.

After every one said their goodbyes to the dead Zoran asks, "so what next should we make food or better yet who has food and how much?" Also does anyone see an unburned or only slightly burned table for us to eat on or at least prepare the food on? I can help prepare food but I think I will probably need help so, who normally does the cooking?"

(Also how would we prepare the food I don't think preparing the food with the soul sucking knife would be a great idea. I can imagine how it would workout:

Zoran: (cuts fruit with knife) "Um I think I am take the fruits' souls, do you think I should stop?"
Baldhart: (prays to godess) please forgive the Paladin for take the souls of so many fruit.")

lays 20gp, 28 sp, lockpicks and chain shirts, apart, and the hand crossbows.
"Can someone check these for magic?
Maybe identify the vial of fluid the kolbolds found?"

(Aliron is the only person able to use the lockpicks so he'll keep them. Everyone else can pick what they want.)

Was anyone able to check for magic?
Did anyone take these items (other then lock pick?)

"Baldhart can cook." I let my big cousin set up a campfire.

While she's busy with that, I ask, "What happened to the knife? I will need a good, long study of it. Perhaps a group of us can put our heads together when we set up camp. But if we're going to travel while there's still daylight, I might be able to study while I ride."

I grin at Batos as I say that, then add, "I believe I'm lighter than Tarlack."

"Ok well I have the knife in my backpack, would like me to give it to you now by the way is there a place for me to change out of this armor? I think helping Baldhart with cooking would be a bit hard in this armor." He said nicely.

I watch the others as they speak, but keep my own words to myself for the time being as the children mourn. The deeds of the drow have left me worried, and dark in mind. Anger boils just beneath the surface, but I hide it well and gather my belongings before offering to keep watch over the children when we leave.

If anyone notices the protective glare in my gaze and the almost-agressive way I wield my staff, i make no comment on it.

Batos

I quirk an ear toward Nissa and wag my tail a bit at her words, but the past events have left me worried. But I shake it off and glance about us. Tarlack is now without a wolf to ride. If I can find a pack and challenge the Alpha and beat him, maybe I can do some good for his tribe. I do not like the idea of them being without a swift means to flee should something dark befall them.

I head out and away from the group to a clearing, then sit and raise my head in a long, clear howl, trying to catch the attention of any other wolves who may be near, a safe distance from the group:

"I suppose there's enough of a wall on the barn that you'd be shielded from wind, and it's private enough. And speaking of private, I better wash up before I touch any food, unless you don't mind bits of drow brain in your food."

With the fire going, I ask Burnbright for my ring. I'll bathe later, but for now, I just find a thick mound of snow and let it melt over my warm fingers.

I ask Keit, "How're you holding up?"

Philster401

Scribal Lord
"Thank you, and I don't think I would like having brains in my foos" Zoran said then he went, changed out of his armor and into his clothes which were of high quality. Then he used the snow to clean of his hands and went to see if Baldhart wanted help with the cooking.

When he got over to her he asked, "So would you like my help? Also what are we having?"

"Hopefully, everyone has their rations. But we can also have a few cuts of these!" I show Zoran two rabbits, which I picked up on the way down the hill from the tunnels. "A kobold threw them at me when I charged it. I mean before I knew of the drow. Might seem harsh to kill the thing when it was out hunting, but child-killers gotta eat too. Despite my oath, I know it's kobold hands that destroyed this place. Being under orders doesn't change that. I made my vow for Tarlack and for the sake of the children we were still able to save. Prying rabbits from the hands of kobolds I killed earlier… no remorse."

I take the harpy's knife and start skinning a rabbit. To Zoran I say, "If you want, you can shove a stick up its ass and rotate it over the flames until the meat's cooked through. If you're not sure who to tell, let me skin both first. Then we cook 'em together and you mirror what I do." I look back at Branwen, who seems to understand we prefer she avoid raw meat. "Assuming no one else wants 'em, the organs go to Branwen."
