Dragon's Egg - Act III

I glance at Baldhart, recalling the idea I had while in the bath. Would now be the opportune time to discuss it with her, or should I wait? It may be a rather sensitive topic; I can't be sure how she'll react, but I don't want to make a fool of myself.

Aliron and Bressel sit down for the meal.

"We need to talk about tomorrow, I know some have ideas about the counsel. We need to do so in a place that has less outside ears." Aliron announces.
With quick blessing over the food, both men begin eating.

"Yeah. Let's talk about the serious stuff upstairs. If this conversation is whispered, I'm afraid I'll end up with a potato in my ear." I glance at Mauve.

"Hmeeeeym." I swallow another portion, looking at Baldhart. "I am eating fast, not messily. Humph." I wipe my mouth delicately, only to resume eating like before.

I pause between bites and look at Mauve. "You really should slow down, dear, or you'll make yourself ill. If this is your first hot meal in goodness knows how long, why not take the time to savor it?"

"Maybe Baldhart should demonstrate table manners to Branwen when she is ready. I wonder if Branwen might have taught someone how to eat?" I say with a smile and glance at Mauve, "No one reach in front of her. No Bressel, Mauve was not the cause of the missing hand."

I can't help but laugh at Aliron's words. It feels good to do so after so much strife and grief. This may be our last moment of peace for quite some time, and I intend to make the most of it.

Glancing at Líadan, I tease her, "I can taste food while I chew it, can't you?"

"And you, Baldhart, stop tempting me. I may throw a potato at you only to satisfy your expectations!" I smile mischievously, taking my fork and stabbing something from her plate, stealing it.

"Your punishment. Nom."

Hearing Cadell laugh warms my heart. When was the last time he truly enjoyed himself like this? He never wanted to leave Aelwyd Eirian in the first place, and I can't imagine that got any better as time went on, if what he told me is any indication. Poor elf. His friends have certainly done much to earn his loyalty, if he would go back north for them rather than staying in exile in the south.

I grin back at Mauve. "The way you were eating, I was surprised any of it even touched your tongue."

Mauve stabs at MY food. "Yipes!"

"Damn, you're quick! Of course… what would I expect from a spear-fighter from the north?"

"The food on my plate must be better than the food on Mauve's plate, though she's obviously enjoying hers quite a bit."

I sip some wine. "Please excuse me for a moment." I turn to Burnbright, saying, "I'll only be a moment."

I approach Gisla. "The food here is wonderful, Gisla! So… I realize you and Aga work together and it's quite busy in here now. The meeting I had planned should take between ten and twenty minutes. I wasn't sure if you'd rather start now, while everyone's eating, or wait until most of my party is upstairs and then we meet by a fire.

"What I should tell you is that what we do is only to be attended, or even witnessed, by those who follow Brynhild."

"So, do you have any other comment about potatoes?" I ask her in a menacing voice, grinning.

The elf wizard approaches us. By the time Baldhart answered him, my smile is gone, so is half of my appetite. I forgot this moron was with us. Luckily, in these few minutes I'm almost done eating, so I work on finishing my meal, although without the enthusiasm of a few moments ago.

"Uhm, Cadell, when you are finished could we trade our stuff back? You know, I still have some clothes of yours with me..." I leave the rest untold. "I am almost done here, I shall wait everyone in Baldhart's room to discuss our next move. Meanwhile I will work on some unfinished matters."

I look to Mauve and nod. "Yes, of course. I'll retrieve what you lent me as soon as I'm finished."

My thoughts drift back to that mysterious case, and curiosity gnaws at me. What could be inside that she values so much? Do I dare ask her about it?

Aga and Gisla both work to keep the people in the Maiden's Spear with full cups, and also bring out dinner to those who request it. Most of the fare is fish of some kind, understandably, but there is also a smattering of rabbit and grouse. An assortment of vegetables are available, and while they're not the best representatives of their type, they are tasty enough. There is even a dollop or two of honey for Mauve.

When Baldhart requests a private room with a fireplace, Gisla says "We can use the kitchen. It is the only free area with a fireplace. Just give me fifteen minutes to get the last of the food served. Aga knows we're not to be disturbed there - no one will bother us."

I try casting again, pulling on a deep well of magic within myself in hopes to at least do better:

[2d4+0] = 5+0 = 5

[2d4+0] = 5+0 = 5

[2d4+0] = 4+0 = 4

[2d4+0] = 5+0 = 5

I realize after several seconds that i had made a fool of myself by using the wrong kind of magic, and smack my hand to my forehead. "Stupid stupid stupid! How could i forget!" Oh well, at least i remember now. And hopefully won't forget again.

Scooping up the goodberries into a different bag than the ones that still need to be changed, i put my things away and head downstairs. Everyone has already gotten something to eat, and I pick up a plate before gathering some of whatever isn't meat onto it. Batos may enjoy deer and mice, but i prefer plants over animals any day.

"I missed the honey." I pull my chair back, placing my hand over my stomach, sighing satisfied. "If you excuse me, I am going to seize Baldhart's room to myself while you finish your meal." I grin, leaving the payment for the meal over the table.

((Do they sell wine? She asked before, but it got lost. If yes she'll leave money for a bottle too.))

When finally alone at her room, I place the writing material around me and sit with my back to the door, uncovering my eye without unwrapping the cloth around my head. I proceed to work on my spellbook, replacing the spells I've written down recently with new versions written in another tongue. Being in a hurry I had no time to take the appropriated precautions; now I can finally get rid of some potential risks.

((Just random RP stuff. I don't expect someone going through her spellbook, but Mauve does.))

"I'll see you up there," I say to Mauve as she heads up to my room. I go to the table to get Burnbright. "It's time!" I tell her.

Oh, Nissa… this is going to be so much fun!

Yeah…
