Dragon's Egg - Act III

((@SP, here's Baldy's intent. I'll understand if trouble happens before I can complete all of these actions.))

I look back and see Bressel is having trouble. I continue to move forward for now, as I'll only make a bigger mess if I change course. So much for one trip…

Once I get the boats to shore, I whisper, "Put our belongings in each of the boats. It takes two to move the big one."

Again, I move as much as I can underwater to avoid being seen. When near the dock, I stop for breath and a look at the lone goblin. Once he turns—or if he's alerted—I'll help Bressel with the big boat.

It's not easy…

((Note: I don't know if the roll is necessary, or if this is successful, or can be with Bressel's roll. @SP, I figure in 6 seconds, I get to roll again. To save time with back-and-forth/posting, I sent you additional rolls.))

Bressel and Baldhart are both growing tired at this point, the cold sapping their strength more quickly than warm water would. Together, however, they put their muscles to good use and are able to tow the boat without allowing the waves to carry it ashore. The goblin appears to be on a schedule of roughly five minutes between times his head pokes over the top of the overlook. What he is doing the rest of the time, you don't know.

He appears again, casting a cursory gaze over the area...

Goblin on Warg - Spot [1d20] = 7

...and still notices nothing. His survey of the docks and surrounding area is lazy, and he only glances down briefly before urging his mount out of sight once more.

Every time the goblin approached the cliff top aldar held his breath, Thanks the gods he is a lazy watchmen.
aldar readies his mind for the upcoming battle just in case it would happen.
Crouching low so as to avoid being seen he keenly awaits the signal from the others. He readies his bow he has borrowed, looking it over briefly to make sure he is acquainted with it properly. Casting magic will only be used if absolutely necessary as bright magic missiles flying around would be sure to alert any enemies who hadn’t already seen us.

"Come on..Come on.."

As soon as he sees the signal he can get across and start climbing the wall.

Made it! Good job, Mauve, Hope you're not dead.

I use my wool dress as a towel, somewhat regretting that I didn't take the ring. But how could I take that from Mauve who may need it much more? I wear clothing, but not armor or boots.

"Let's move," I say. "I think Bressel and I can each handle a row boat. The rest of you can move the big one together."

((If we move out now…))

Not my best rowing, but at least I'm moving.

I take a wide berth, following the course as Alin suggested…

Aldar hurries to the larger rowboat.
"quick get in before the guard comes back"
The feeling in the air seems tense and he wants to get it over with as fast as possible. Sometimes i think that the anticipation to conflict is ten times worse than the actual fighting itself.

Cadell

I move to the boat with Líadan, making sure to stay as close to the middle as possible. This tub had better not sink under our weight. But knowing our need for silence and secrecy, I keep that thought to myself.

Líadan

Cadell's unease at being in a boat is palpable. I stay close to him, sliding a hand into his for what little comfort I can offer. If anything does happen, I'm sure he won't be without companions ready to keep him from drowning, including me.

Being closer to the edge of the boat, I find an oar and start to row, hoping someone else will follow suit with the other. We can't afford to paddle around in circles.

I sigh. Getting used to the movement is going to take a while, it seems.

I join in , Rowing the other side of the boat, slowly and firm. The water looks black and deep, I would hate to fall into that water, You wouldn't even know which way was up, Let alone the creatures that might lie in wait for any unlucky soul who falls in.

Are we getting anywhere? I keep rowing, hoping we're making some progress, even if it is slow.

While we're far out, I say to Alin, "Seemed like about 5 minutes every time the goblin peeked over the cliff. If we study the sentries near the Crow, maybe we can find the best time to move forward.

"I suppose elven eyes are better than mine… what we're looking for, ideally, is a moment when all three sentries peek over the cliff at once. Assuming they move at different paces, it's out best chance of not getting caught. The fastest one might make it back to his post as we approach… hopefully, he's sloppy as the goblin was.

"Hopefully, Mauve's watching for our approach so she can distract the sentries. Bear in mind, she can see the ones east of the Crow, so she might time her distraction based on their moves. I don't know if her distraction will affect the one to the west as well.

"Alin, please be the one to tell us when to move."

"Do we want to sit out in the open and chance any one of the sentrys sees us, or charge in and get as far as we can?" I ask softly. "There is the chance the sentrys will only look at the rear of the Crow, but there is the chance they see the boats out here. There is also the chance the dock sentry notices the boats are missing."
[the decision would be made quickly, so we should still have a minute or two to take action before the dock sentry returns.]

Bressel
As we slow Bressel takes time to get dressed and get his armor on, adjusted and his weapons positioned properly.
When he climbs up, he will use the scimitar if he needs to fight.
Once able to have both hands free, he will use the axe.
When ready he ties his boat to the larger boat so it won't float away when we get to the crow. Enough rope not to continuouosly bump each other.
"How do we keep boats from drifting away?" Bressel asks softly. "I have grappling hook and rope, maybe hook use like anchor?"

"If Mauve can see us, we need to trust she'll create the diversion we need when the sentries head our way. I'm guessing she can only create one diversion, so we need to be fast.

"Alin, you're the stealth expert. On your signal, I'll row as best I can."

((At cliffside, use rope—the one that's already attached to the boat—to tie or loop around a rock formation to keep boat from drifting away. If anchor inside, use that, too.

If Baldy arrives first, which is likely with that roll unless sentries screw us up, AND if a STR check works for rock climbing, she goes up first then secures Mauve's silk rope for others to climb or be pulled.

Note: Baldy is barefoot and not wearing armor. Her sword will be on her back as she climbs.))

As soon as I'm up, I'll peer in a window and get Nissa inside.

((Going out now — if we're in a position that allows Nissa to fly over land, Baldy says this:

"Um… we're likely to be spotted, judging by their movement. If anyone wants Nissa to create a diversion, light a torch."

As soon as the torch is lit, Nissa appears and darts toward shore. Her intent: to fly very high so dogs and goblins are looking up at a mysterious flame coming from the west and making circles and figure-eights. She'll fly well above crossbow range.

If we're already lined up with the Crow in a way that makes Nissa's flight another attention-getter, we just depend on Mauve…))

((Still going along with Alin's call for a quick decision…))

"I don't have a torch. If you want Nissa to distract the sentries, please light a torch now. The moment a lit torch is within 20 feet of me, she'll leap from the fire. Hand her the torch, and she'll fly as fast as she can!"

((The required range may be more than 20 feet, but Baldy doesn't know the exact distance.))

If they get the fire Nissa needs, I'll row as soon as I feel her soul leave my body.

[Character update 47, Bressel McAlmond=10 torches. :) ]

Bressel holds up a torch with a big smile,
"I have torches, but nothing to light it with." He admits quietly.

[Anyone see my message on Rolz? tried to check on MS last at 3;30 ohio time.]
Aliron
"We need the diversion fairly quick." he says scanning the cliff line.

I pull up by and I row! boat. "Toss one," I tell him, adding a "please" since manners won't slow him any.

((I'll assume he gives it to Baldy. DEX is a prime for him, so if we need a check, he's less likely to toss it in a lake.))

I get out my flint and steel, and…

"Nice to meet you, Bressel. Would stay and chat if I could."

Nissa speeds off to face the enemy with nothing but a torch…

…and I row!
