Ch.5 "Lost Souls" / Kell and Sigrlinn

"A speech?" Sigrlinn looks at him, boggled. "I don't think I'm that good with words. Animals and hunting have always sort of been my forte." Looks like Kell will have her moment to shine here. "Uh... a speech about what?"

Heph says, "Um… I don't know. I have to address the crowd every night. What's different about tonight?" He slaps his forehead, causing his shoulders to shake, but you somehow manage to stay on. "How silly of me! I just hired two new advisors. That's new and different!

"So… help me come up with an introduction for you both. You can even change your titles if you want to, just so long as they are both at the same rank."

Stroking her chin thoughtfully, Kell asks, "What are some of the things that are difficult for you without advisors? Besides speeches, I mean. And what sorts of things are important to your maidens? I think a good speech introducing us could cover both of those things."

Sigrlinn smiles. "I like 'Chief Executive Director of Goodness and Decency'. Let's stick with that. As for how to introduce me... I don't know, maybe say I flew in from a faraway land? It's kind of true no matter how you look at it. This place is far from the mortal realm, and Barbieria is far from Arcaia."

"Um… important to them? Uh………… well………………………

"They like dancing. They like… me. And they like the clothes Arachne makes. And sometimes I add new buildings and they like that. I redesigned the sun and moon and I think there will be a triple moonrise tonight—the red one and two of the green ones. They like that the moons are different colors. I like that too. They like a lot of what I like. Except they're all very good at dancing, and I enjoy dancing too, but am not very good. I'm getting better though. For them, I'm getting better."

Feeling uncertain for the moment how to work this into a speech, Kell asks, "And my first question? What are some of the areas that you struggle with that you feel an advisor can aid you with, besides the speech-making?"

"Dancing... and... well, too many to list. I don't want to advise my own advisor, but perhaps the speech is the priority for now. I don't want the crowd to lose their patience."

The maidens stare with adoring eyes. Their eyes are lights, but still, you can tell they're staring adoringly.

Taking a deep breath for patience, Kell says calmly, "Heph, you just shot my chances of making an effective speech all to Hades. I'm not really even clear on how we can help you dance, unless we instruct you from your shoulders."

"This is going to be the worst speech I have ever written, but here goes:"

'Greetings maidens and thank you all for coming out to the Knight Club tonight.

Tonight I have two very special guests to introduce to you who have flown in - literally - from far away to join us. They will be helping me as my advisors with some of those tedious tasks I don't enjoy so that I can work on some important projects - like improving my dancing!

Please give a warm welcome to Chief Executive Director of Goodness and Decency Sigrlinn Tofisdottir and Chief Executive Director of Entertainment and Pleasantries Kelleia Silvertide!'

Heph turns to Sigrlinn. "Every word you say?"

He says to the audience, "Let's — dance."

The maidens look at each other. A knight presses a button. There is music and everyone cheers and dances.

"Wow," he says to Sigrlinn, "you weren't kidding. To think I've been wasting all that time writing a different three-minute speech every day."

He turns to Kell and says, "Ah, but I still owe you two an introduction. I'll work it in."

Heph begins to dance to the music, making jerky sways as he holds the mic.

Let's — Dance

"Take a bow, ladies!"

The crowd cheers wildly.

Sigrlinn taps her foot to the beat of the song that tarts to play, and sweeps off her horned helmet with a bow and a grin when Heph introduces her. "Thank you!"

Kell dances in imitation of a robot as well, twirling in a pirouette at the end before sinking into a curtsy.

She smiles and waves at the audience, saying, "It's great to be here."

Heph tells you both, "The crowd is reacting quite well to you both. Why not go to Sir Darius Jaeger? Just tell him Heph sent you."

You have no idea who this Sir Darius Jaeger is, but Heph says to Kell, "I'm worried about what might happen if you try walking on a floor packed with dancers that weigh 800 pounds. I'll ask the maidens to crowd-surf you to my guy."

Before you can say anything, Heph hands you off to the nearest maiden who giggles and gently hands you off to the next, and she does the same, as does the next and the next and the next...

"Crowd surfing is a great way to get around," Heph says to Sigrlinn. "Care to try? Or will you just fly and follow your friend and colleague?"

Kell blinks in startlement as the maidens start the hand-off to Sir Darius, and at first she is tense, but as the maidens are gentle in their handling, she soon relaxes.

Sigrlinn smiles at Heph. "I'm not very used to flying yet, so I think I'll play it safe and let the maidens hand me over. Thanks."

You both are crowd-surfed to Sir Dari--

"Sir D.J., please, ladies. It seems Heph really trusts you. A lot. For new girls.

"So here's the deal. Make a request. I'll have the band play it. You lead the dance."

((Post a music video and decribe the dance you lead!))

"Fair warning. The tune and dance will set Heph's mood for the evening. He usually has someone make a request when he has multiple plans for the evening but only has time to make one or two of those plans happen."

"Pleased to meet you, Sir D.J."

Again Sigrlinn looks to Kell. "I can't remember doing much if any dancing in my life, much less leading one. This looks like it might be your area of expertise."

"Suit yourself," says Sir D.J., "but just to look good in front of the boss, you might wanna suggest one, then make it a couple dance. Then you can kind of explain and… well… I could ask Lady 64-64 to dance with me. So we'd handle the dancing part.

"What d'ya think?"

Sir D.J. seems rather eager to ask Lady 64-64 to dance with him.

Kell gulps a little, unsure if the maidens have a preference for any particular type of music, then says, "I grew up in Nyse and attended Aphrodite's villa for several years. I remember this song being very popular there, and I wonder if any of you in the audience can relate to this singer's message. I know I sure wanna dance with somebody who loves me."

She then begins an energetic dance to match the beat, pretending to dance with an invisible partner.

Sigrlinn smiles and steps toward Kell. "May I have this dance? Friendly love is still love, after all."
