"And the fairies?" a woman asks.
"Both alive. One's working on the Huntress."
That's Amber. You didn't know her long, but you recognize her voice. You can't actually see her—or see anything for that matter. You're too weak to move even an eyelid.
"But we lost a nymph."
"Only one."
"Is that how you would have said it if she were one of yours?"
"No, I… I just just mean we're fortunate. If not for your arrow…"
The voices seem to fade. You feel two very tiny fingers walking across your bare chest. You feel more tiny sensations—
Then a voice rapidly squeaks, "I'm losing her!"
There's an electrical charge (from what you now realize are not tiny fingertips, but fairy hands)!
"…had plans for this nymph. We can't afford to lose her."
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The woman speaking must be a titan, judging by the way she walks.
"Aaaaaannnnnd hooooowwwww arrrrrrre yoooooou feeeeeelllliiiiiiinggg, Hunnnnnntresssss?"
For some reason she's talking very slowly. And when she does, her voice is almost like a man's. Yet somehow you're sure it's the same person.
The least you could do is open up your eyes and talk to her.
So you do.
But what you notice is your two hands pressed down on a mountain of freckled skin. At its peak is a nipple the size of your hand.
And speaking of your hands, they look oddly unfamiliar to you. So do your arms for that matter. They're bony and tan, lacking in freckles or even the finest hair.
As for the titan's hand, index-to-pinky is head-to-toe for you. You aren't an expert on how titans compare to humans. It's just that the hand is reaching for you. Very slowly. You could probably step out of the way if you wanted to.
The fairy body does what you want--just not quickly enough.
But the giant's hand is gentle. And as you expected, it's yours. So is the voice, when she speaks, though the voice is deep and slow.
"I didn't mean to startle you," you say. Or she says--she being whoever is in your body--who you probably guessed is...
"Phoebe?"
The voice calling out to you is strange. You turn to see Sapphire fluttering beside you--'you' being the you in the body that is no bigger than Sapphire's. She sounds like an ordinary woman and doesn't talk so fast, at least not when heard by fairy ears.
"Up here," Phoebe replies through your mouth.
Sapphire still seems confused, but decides your question deserves an answer.
"I'm sorry…" she starts.
But she's cut off by the pounding footsteps headed in your direction. You turn to see the woman making all that noise is walking more delicately than anyone. It's Aphrodite.
(You're pretty sure she wasn't in the area when Zeus showed up. But then, you're indoors now, and are pretty sure any cabin near the lake has been reduced to ashes.)
"Everyone's sorry," Aphrodite says, though her irate tone is not directed at the fairy, but at a dark-haired Huntress dressed in an earthen toga. The toga only covers her left shoulder. Her right breast is exposed.
—Unlike yours, as Phœbe now feels compelled to cover up with the bedsheets, as likely for you comfort as for her own.
The nymph goddess goes on, "And I'm sorry too! Sorry I let you talk me into this!"
Aphrodite strokes Kell's hair, then takes her limp hand into her own. "She saved my marriage, Artemis. She may not have known it, but she wasn't just another nymph to me. I wanted something special for her and I trusted you and…"
Artemis patiently waits for Aphrodite to find the words. But all Aphrodite comes up with.
"…now my youngest sister is dead."
Aphrodite sees you crying and then says to Artemis, "Is that a healer fairy?"
"She is."
"And you had her heal your Huntress."
"I did."
Aphrodite is probably not too crazy about you being the priority to Artemis, and you may be feeling rather guilty about it yourself. It may be best for everyone that Artemis doesn't explain why she chose you over Kell.
"Well, your Huntress is alive, so I need to borrow your fairy."
She grabs you out of your hand. I mean your human hand, which is sort of Phœbe's hand and you're in Phœbe's body so maybe Aphrodite grabbed her. But it sure feels like it's you whose being picked up in the goddess' huge hand. And Aphrodite's skin is very soft by the way. The feeling is surprisingly comfortable.
Her perfect lips purse in a way that conveys many negative emotions yet is strikingly gorgeous.
"You can heal my Kelleia, can you not, Healer Fairy?"
"Uh…" That's Phœbe speaking. In your voice. "…technically, I don't think she can."
"Are you saying she used all her magic to save you?"
"Uh…"
Phœbe makes an expression suggesting she could probably use some help with the explanation since this whole body-swapping thing is confusing to her. That's actually a lot to read from a facial expression. But then again, she is making the expression with your face.
No one seems to know what you're talking about. Aphrodite asks, "Who's Phœbe?"
Sapphire flies next to you and explains the whole body-swapping thing. It actually takes a very long time. You tune out this part of the conversation.
Artemis says, "So Sigrlinn's soul is in Phœbe's body, and Phœbe's is in hers… I wonder. Where is Kell's soul?"
Aphrodite snaps, "Where do you thi—"
She stops talking rather abruptly to glare out the window, but her look softens.
"Oh, yes. Helix. I'd sort of forgotten about him. I suppose if you wish to know the whereabouts of Kell's soul, you can ask Helix. Might anyone here speak Horse?"
"Both alive. One's working on the Huntress."

Ireth said:Sigrlinn listens to the voices, not that she has much choice in the matter. She's surprised she can hear anything right now.
The tiny voice cries out in fright. An electrical charge jolts through Sigrlinn, and she panics for a moment, thinking of Zeus--
--but the other voice still speaks, and then come footsteps. Huge ones. And the voice is huge too, suddenly. But Sigrlinn isn't sure she feels up to answering the question.
She opens her eyes, and starts in surprise. Those arms in front of her don't look like they belong to her at all. In fact, the enormous freckled breast she's pushing down on looks more like hers, but for the size. Is she dreaming? Is she inside the head of the fairy who's keeping her body alive?
A huge hand reaches for her. Sigrlinn tries to dodge, not sure if this body she's in will even obey her.

She turns to Sapphire and says, "Something got switched around, somehow. Are the others alright? Kell?" She remembers hearing of a nymph who was "lost", clearly because of the lightning, and wonders which one it is.

Aphrodite is gentle, and if Zeus wounded her before, Sigrlinn can't feel it anymore. She hiccups as she tries to compose herself. When she's able to speak, her voice is hoarse. "Wh-what am I supposed to do? Even if Phoebe's body has magic in it, I don't kn-know how to use it! I'm a H-Huntress, not a healer!"
She looks at Kell again, swallowing hard. "If she's... dead, and we can't heal her, does that mean we m-might have to get her back from Hades ourselves?" Sigrlinn tries and fails to remember if it's ever been mentioned whose side Hades is on, if any but his own. What if he's allied with Zeus?

Sigrlinn takes another deep breath and seeks out Helix's mind...
