Vin says, "I'm happy with either. Unless it's true that men who enter Sardis get shot on sight. In that case, I better go to Nyse."

Kell asks, "If we went to Nyse, would it be possible to get a message to Artemis and let her know the reason for our delay, with a promise that Sardis will be our next destination? And if we go to Sardis, how can we keep Vin safe?"

Seeing the upset look on Leto's face, she steps over and gives her friend a side hug. But she keeps her arm around her, sensing her friend needs the support.

Heph says, "Getting word to Artemis from Nyse should be easy. Protecting Vin in Sardis… she won't just kill him on sight, but likely he'll be warned to leave. She has her reasons. Even I stay out of her forest."

Kell asks, "Is there someplace near Sardis where Vin could stay while we go into the forest?"

As a new thought occurs to her, she suggests, "Maybe Artemis is suggesting Apollo knows because she wants Leto in the habit of being on her guard?"

Buck says, "I can keep Vin busy. There are places you ladies need to avoid. Vin can work with me in those parts. I can train him, let him know what the Orange Phoenix is about..."

Vin seems interested. "I can protect you better if I'm trained."

Kell tells Buck and Vin, "I think that sounds good."

Then she asks, "So are we agreed the plan is to go to Nyse for Aphrodite's training, but let Artemis know we are delaying for it, then on to Sardis Forest to meet Artemis, with Vin working with Buck while we're there?"

Leto

Leto returns the one-armed hug Kell gives her, and watches Aphrodite as she waits for an answer to Kell's question. When none comes, she listens to what Kell, Buck and Vin have to say, then nods. "That works for me."

Kell decides to let go of her earlier annoyance with the goddess, since she was able to slow things down. Maybe the goddess just gets in a hurry to get things done? She gives Aphrodite a smile. "NOW the decision's been made."

Kell finds Sapphire and says, "I suppose I should think about improving my equipment, now that I have some coin. What's new at your shop? And what weapons do you have that are technology-based? Heph gave me the ability to use technology."

"So far, we just have traps for Huntresses and ammo for hand cannons. But maybe you're interested in a new dress or a spear? Oh... and Desma and Phoebe made some fairy cakes! They're like health rolls, but better!"

Kell ponders. "What's the spear made of? I can only wield weapons of wood or stone, except for the technology. Or at least, Heph didn't say I was limited to wood and stone technology weapons. I'm good on dresses for now, I think, but tell me about the Fairy Cakes. How are they better?"

Sapphire replies, "Well… Desma's only prepared the ingredients, so nobody's eaten one yet. My guess is better healing. Maybe magic, too. There better be magic with a name like Fairy Cakes! Of course, healing is magic.

"I don't know what the spear is made of. Maybe Heph hit you on the head so hard it won't matter what the weapon's made of. But then you won't really know until you try. Well… if you pre-order, then find you can't use it, I'll give you your money back."

Kell tells Sapphire, "Well, we used up both of our health rolls on top of the volcano, so we need to restock. But if Desma hasn't made one of the cakes yet, then maybe I should talk to her about the size."

"Go ahead and pre-order me the spear, though."

And she walks over Desma and says, "Any chance I could request that the Fairy Cake you and Phoebe are working on will fit into an Orange Phoenix purse? If you can do that, I'll gladly be your first customer." If Desma seems open to the idea, she shows Desma her purse so Desma can estimate the size.

Leto

While Kell talks with the fairies, Leto leaves to retrieve and fix her battered armor. With any luck it'll distract her from the storm inside her head.

Desma lets Phoebe know that her fairy cake is a cupcake. It takes up as much space as a health roll, but the healing magic is stronger. Sapphire marks down the spear and Fairy Cake, for a total of $1460. She says that Kell can pay at the Hearthland when she gets the items.

((I'll add them to Kell's stuff, but of course she can change her mind.))

Leto is free to use the forge if she wants to work. She is given a bathrobe, since the gown she wore to the wedding is not suitable for hard labor. Leto can pin her fashionista badge to the robe if she wants to have more proper attire for working. (She just needs to remove the badge before returning the robe.)

Her business now completed, Kell finds the van Donks. "When were you thinking you wanted to go to Nyse? It seems that is Leto's, Vin's, and my next destination, and I was wondering whether you wanted to travel there together?"

Sonja says, "Actually, Aphrodite wants us to come out during the day. She said you'll need to move fast when it gets dark. Helix can carry you and Leto."

Vin says, "Well, I'm going to risk coming with you and Leto. If it's just the three of us, we won't go slow. I can ride Valkyrie."

Buck tells Vin, "You won't get horses through the Hearth. Helix seems to have a funny way of getting past water. They do allow horses on the ferry, though it's not cheap."

Vin shrugs. "I can afford it. Besides, if you're going to get me in the bounty hunting business, I'll be a lot better at catching bad guys on my trusty steed."

Buck is fine with that arrangement. "Are you, Kell?"

Kell says, "I'm fine with that in theory, but what time is it? The wedding started just before midnight, and I know I danced for a really long time. If we can't take Helix and Valkyrie through the Hearthland, we have to take the ferry. Or will we just send Valkyrie over on the ferry, Helix over doing his thing, while the rest of us travel to the Hearthland?"

Then she leans over and whispers to Vin, "Helix is no ordinary animal. He is more intelligent than an animal, I can talk to him via telepathy, he has special magic in his horn that lets him locate me, and he can change into the form of a horned dolphin. And in case we didn't make it clear, the Hearthland is where we stayed with Buck last night, or maybe that's two nights ago, now."

Judging by the moon, there are a few hours until dawn (~3:00am). Vin thinks he'll need to take Valkyrie on the ferry himself, but he'll find his way to Ogygia's center. Midori and Sapphire promise to take turns watching for him from the great tree.

"Do the ferries run all night, too, or will Vin have to take Valkyrie whenever it opens once the sun rises? And does the warning about traveling at night or via the underground apply to Leto only, or does it apply to me, too? I wouldn't mind traveling over with Vin, but if the warning applies to me, too, I guess I'd better go via the passage here in the Mansion."
