A signal from the white bat reaches Leto's mind, somehow translated into words. Awaiting orders. She frowns, then looks at Kell and Bridgette.

"I know more beast-speaking might seem like a bad plan, but I'm going to try it again. Get ready to catch me, just in case..."

Bridgette is ready to catch Leto, but Leto does not fall... yet. She sees two images at once. In color, she is still looking at Kell and Bridgette. In black and white...

Leto gasps in horror at what she sees through the bat's eyes, and relays the scene to Kell and Bridgette in a rush.

"Seven masked men are going to sacrifice an innocent woman to a volcano god. We have to act now or she'll die! I'm commanding the bats."

To the white-winged bat, she sends orders.

Attack the men; do not harm the woman. More women are coming to help.

Leto flies toward the girl with 20 bats following her lead.

The masked men turn. There are seven in all. The one closest to the girl is wearing a crown.

It is apparent to Leto that whatever is happening, her human body and her friends are too far away to stop it. Her best hope is her squad of twenty bats, it seems... until Helix skids into the cave!

Aaaaaah! Bats! Bats and assholes, Kell, and I'm rescuing the wrong girl! What do I do?

Leto is linked to the bats, which are linked to Kell, who is linked to Helix. Thanks to a perfect storm of telepathy, magic and divine intervention, Kell and Leto can work with the beasts to rescue the young girl.


((Leto, roll #2d6+1 for now. The roll weakens as you lose bats.))

Kell thinks to Helix, I'm not just super-aware of your abilities, yet, Helix, but maybe let loose a flying kick at the leader? I'm guessing those hooves of yours might make for good weapons. Or maybe gore one of them with your horn, if it's recovered from sticking into the side of the ferry. Or if you have your own idea, you can try that, too. I'll get there as soon as I can.

While Kell speaks to Helix, Leto communicates with the bats. Keep the men from hurting the woman and the unicorn as much as possible. Maybe some of you can lead the woman out to where my friends are coming.

Helix rushes toward the chief. Let me try that kick idea! He stops short of the chief, turns and accidentally bumps the chief harmlessly with his butt. The chief knifes him and Helix whinnies before launching the chief into the cavern wall with his hooves!

The girl is too freaked out to go anywhere near the bats, but most of the men at getting chunks of flesh torn from their faces, so the rescue may be able to wait. One of the masked men manages to duck, while another takes out his machete and slices a wing off one of the bats. He stomps on it several times screaming a string of curses.

Having overheard Leto's command to the bats thanks to her own link to them, Kell thinks to Helix, How is the girl responding to the bats? If she seems frightened of them, she may be willing to let you take her to safety.

((I'll give time for Ireth to post another bat attack/action, but for now I'll have Helix respond.))

Helix takes advantage of the chief being thrown from him. He rushes over to the girl. Her eyes look him over up and down. She nods—

Hey! Good news! She's getting on! So now what?—take her outta here?

Leto feels a sharp pain as one of the bats is maimed and killed. She wills the others to keep fighting. Go for their eyes!

The bats manage to rip into three of the men. One of them flees in a blind panic, but fails to realize how close he is to a twenty foot drop. He tumbles heels-over-head from the white bat's sight. A moment later, Leto hears a wet, sickening crunch.

The other two blinded men manage to grab the bats tearing up their faces. They beat the winged rodents into the ground.

Helix makes his escape, though he feels a sharp pain in his left buttock as the chief fires a blow dart. But the pain does not slow his escape. The girl is unscathed, and riding off to safety.

((Leto can keep attacking the five weakened minions or have her bats follow Helix.))

Leto decides to choose her battles. Once the would-be victim is out of harm's way, she calls the bats to follow Helix out to where it's safe.

Helix gallops out of the cave, narrowly missed by another dart. There are five horses tied to a nearby hitching post. One has a lot of luggage—they likely belong to tourists, but Helix only has time to relay the fact that there may be a chase.

The white bat sees this as well, and sends a signal to some other bats.

The seventeen black-wing bats remain in the cave. They overwhelm the five men, some manage to flee, bleeding badly and some will never leave the cave until they're dragged out.


((At conference for the next 11 hours. Expect a chase on horseback!))

The Chase!
Helix gallops out of the cave with four riders in pursuit! The girl hangs on for dear life as the chief shoots darts at her and Kell's unicorn.

Kell! A bunch of tourists parked their horses in the handicapped hitching post, and now I'm being chased!


Leto is able to follow as the white bat. There are four horsemen after the girl. The bat won't be able to fight them, but it may be possible for Leto's consciousness to jump to one of the horses.

Helix heads into the village. There's a farm up ahead.

Helix can…
1 - Jump the fence! ((#2d6))
2 - Go around! ((no roll))

((Leto can roll 2d6-1 to beast-speak with a horse.))

Leto decides to leave the bats be and try to beast-speak the lead horse instead. Maybe she can get him to buck his rider, or lead the rest away from Helix and the unknown woman.

Helix barely makes the jump, his hoof kicking out a log from the fence. Yeeowch! He whinnies more in surprise than pain, in part from stubbing his hoof, and also from the girl grabbing his horn and shrieking in his ear.

The chief and his nearest minion make the jump, but the third rider's horse is too weighed down by luggage strapped to its sides. The horse stops short. The rider does not. He is hurled to the ground, neck twisting almost 180˚ as he face-plants into the dirt. Any sound of bones breaking is drowned out by a clattering of metal cooking pots and goblets from one of the horse's bags.

Leto finds herself in the mind of the horse at the rear of the line. She easily takes control of the animal and bucks, throwing the rider. He breaks three limbs as he is smashed violently against the fence. However, Leto's horse is forced to stop short of the fence to avoid injury. The injured masked man shouts, "Bad horse! Bad!"

Flustered Helix communicates his options to Kell: I got this clear pasture up ahead other than a big ox who I'm just gonna give a wide berth, and there's an open barn door! What do you say, Kell! Your ideas work, so you're the boss of me now, and I'm good with that!

As for Leto's options, she'll lag behind in her current horse. She isn't sure how she's changing consciousness or if she can do this all the time, but it seems to be working now. She can try jumping into the mind of the nearest horse. There's also a large ox in the pasture not far from a barn up ahead.

Leto decides to jump into the mind of the ox, in hopes of getting him to stop as many of the riders as he can.

Kell thinks to Helix, There may or may not be an exit from the barn and that route risks you getting trapped there, so go for the pasture, and like you said, give that ox a wide berth.
