Dragon's Egg - Act II

Rydh

Just as you near the casks, there is a glow of light, a shimmer that begins to form around a person crouching behind the casks. The shimmer builds, and then flashes, throwing energy out at you. You feel an electrical charge along your body.

((Rydh and Mauve both take 1 hp of damage from runaway magic in the area)).

((OK, I'll go with the first thing I posted. Sorry for the confusion! I'm more trouble than what I'm worth today!))

Spellfire, or misfire as the case may be. I unsheathe my sword and shout "Show yourself, or I'll strike!"

Valar Lord
I curse under my breath, feeling strained. Positioning the spear in front of my body, I kick the casks over him.

((I don't know about you, but I'm finding hilarious that I could do good useless DEX and STR rolls but never cast a spell!))

"You and me versus the world, Rydh… who would win?"

It's so much easier to do this without a child nearby. My over-protective precautions were admittedly amusing, but only in retrospect can we be certain it was for nothing. Just me and the healer. If I can only have one at my side, I trust Rydh the most.

"Stupid question. The world would. But not until we'd taken out a couple of nations!"

I cannot be surprised so easily. [COMBAT SENSE] Movement. Not Rydh.

((EDIT - Above text is before cask kick. Below is after.))

I say loudly, "I am Baldhart Eisenberg, slayer of demons! I am not a murderer. If you are a person of honorable intentions, come out of the shadows and talk. If you are a monster, come out of the shadows and die."

((Just to clarify, Nihal...are you kicking the casks at Rydh, as in trying to knock him down or something)).

((EDIT: Just to make some sense of all the posts coming at once, lets assume Baldhart is sensing the movement behind the casks just as Rydh approaches and Mauve's spell fails. Baldhart makes her pronouncement, sees the flash of light and the impact against Rydh, and then Mauve kicks over one of the casks. Nihal can clarify whether she's attacking Rydh or just knocking it out of her way)).

((Yes, yes! When in hurry my spellcheck skill is even worse! >.<

I'm trying to knock him down.))

Mauve, Baldhart & Rydh

A human female rises from behind the casks. She wears a heavy cloak lined in fur and holds a short spear crossways in front of her. Looking directly at Rydh, she kicks the cask in front of her toward him. The cask is empty, and light because the wood is largely rotted through. Her foot connects with the cask, but instead of launching the entire thing at Rydh her foot kicks right through the wood, breaking apart the fragile cask. Bits of wood fly forward, some striking Rydh about the legs and chest, but they lack the force to do any real damage or to knock Rydh down.

((At this point, the people upstairs heard Baldhart yell something, even if they couldn't make out the words, and also heard, faintly, the shattering of the cask)).

The fear feels like a hand grasping my throat, I can barely breath, I can't think clearly, everything is happening too fast. The woman said something, but I can't bring myself to answer right now. She's strong, could snap me like a twig and he's an elf, I've never seen one before!

How can I be so unlucky?!

I tighten my grip on the spear's shaft and pull my leg out. Pressing my back against the wall, I try to slid away from them.

((Disengage, fighting))

Something tells me that this girl, whoever she is, might be more scared than anything else. Rather than swing my sword, I charge her with my shield, hoping to pin her against the wall. Hopefully she'll see reason.

Strength Check

((Obviously that didn't work!))

I laugh at the little woman.

"It would hardly seem fair to skewer you while you're sitting in half a barrel, wearing the other half as a shoe. I never struck a person with intent to kill in my entire life. I'd rather not start now."

((EDIT - Mauve scurries as Rydh charges. Text below follows action and hopefully makes sense.))

"Are you capable of speech? Can we use words instead of weapons?"

Mauve is able to keep her spear up, but avoid the shield charge by scurrying back along the wall. Rydh is now right next to her, and still in front of her. Baldhart is to Mauve's left, about ten feet away. She hears Baldhart's question.

((BTW - before striking out, I'll assume the party was healed through a combination of rest, Rydh's efforts, and if necessary some healing from Father Harald. Mauve is down 2 HP and Rydh is down 1)).

Somehow I managed to get out of his way. Incredible. The big woman speaks, and when she's done I feel my face getting hot.

She's making fun of me!

"Oh, damn you!" I blurt out, my voice hoarse. Now I've found my voice it seems easier to keep talking.

"What do you want me to say?! Do not kill me? I won't beg!"

I keep moving away in a defensive stance.

Did I just hear Baldhart Yelling? And a shattering sound. They may need help down below. I light a torch and walk down the stairs cautiosly

((Since the posts are out of sync, I'll stow away the items for later examination.))

I hear Baldhart's hearty laugh. There is little trouble to be found below. I walk over to the stairs and call into the darkness, "If you need anything, le me know. Sounds like you're having too much fun!."

I stride over to the druid and proffer the pouch. "What do you make of the contents?"

"I'm not asking you to beg, I'm trying to convince you not to fight. If I was interested in killing you I would have attacked by now."

INTIMIDATE

((Nihal, you need to roll a CHA check. If charisma is your prime, a 13 prevents intimidation. If not, you need a 19.))

"You won't win unless you have an army hiding in all the barrels. Don't you agree we're better off not fighting?"
