What's a prime attribute?
Hi Philster,

I moved your question to this thread. To answer it, a prime attribute is something you are especially good at. For example, my barbarian has strength, constitution and charisma as her primaries. So she's really good at lifting heavy stuff and resisting poison. For CHA: when a siren tried to charm her, because she has charisma as a prime, the odds were in her favor that she could resist the charm song.

A tip: don't underestimate mental stats. We had a barbarian in the party who dumped all of his points and primes into physical stats. He was easily rendered useless by a magic user. The irony is that the player created him to prove that the best stats for a fighter is 18/prime in STR, DEX, CON, and the opposite proved correct.

My opinion: create an interesting character and have the stats complement the character. I went with crappy dex because my barbarian is big and oafish; STR and CON are primes because of her looks; INT is high, but CHA is her thrid prime because her mother taught her good manners. My half-halfling in barely over two feet tall, so she has a big minus in CON. CHA and WIS are her primes because she's a cute little angelic creature who works for a goddess.

Don't forget humans get three primes. (other races have special traits, humans special trait is an extra prime)
Saving throws against a prime attribute is much easier then one that isn't.

I have a Elf thief and a human barbarian. They have strengths and weaknesses.
Look at how to maximize strengths and minimize weakness, both in character creation and in play.

That might be his high-pitched, whiney battle cry if archers try to support fighters next turn.

@Philster, one thing to keep in mind is that the game's not all combat, so you want an effective warrior who's also effective in other ways. Severin was just telling me he's going to have his archer lower his bow in the current fight (assuming it's just the two enemies we know of).

I expect no archer would fire anyway because our three biggest fighters are crowding the hall, making their XX large backs very likely to catch arrows meant for enemies. But Severin's character is thinking more of the danger his arrows bring to our wolf-riding NPC ally, since shooting him endangers not only his life but also our alliance… which we will be very glad to have when we get in the next room. (14 in there, as far as we know, and 8 can be pulled to our side—and engage some of the other 6 which will hopefully prevent them from shrouding the room in an annoying darkness spell.)

*pokedee-poke-poke-pokes our Kitty overlord and gives Steer a cheshire grin* any chance for a new post anytime soon?

Btw, plan on Batos being all dramatic and giving his own war-cry when they get into the next room.

Yup. I said when.

Cool. Just wait until we're spotted before making noise. The element of surprise is gone as soon as a wolf-riding kobold rides into the enemy's view with a small army of humans, so no harm in being dramatic at that point!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the next post, too. Whether Baldy's attack hit or miss last turn, she's in grappling range. If this move works, what follows will show that Baldhart fully embraces both her monk training and her barbarian roots. There's also a strategic element to what I'm attempting—strategic in more difficult battles. In this battle, the only urgent strategy was to engage the enemy before they could turn off the lights. I guess Baldy's upcoming kill, if successful, will be quiet. But SP already mentioned (in a GM narrative) that those dwarf stone doors block out sound, so we may not need to worry if a dark elf dies screaming.

Oh… and Baldhart might be a bit on the dramatic side herself. Batos can handle sound. Baldhart is thinking more about what the enemy will see. Her naive hope is to stall the enemy with a disturbing sight so they don't immediately turn out the lights. Do the dark elves have long hair? I know if I were to enter a room carrying two severed heads, I'd want the hair to be long.

(Her less naive hope is that Tarlack can command the 8 kobolds to engage the elves so they aren't free to cast darkness. Mauve's ceiling walk is perfect for distracting the boss, since I doubt kobolds will attack her… if that is Mauve's plan for next room. I'm guessing Heartseeker will come into play there, too. Baldy will appreciate seeing someone other than herself getting shot by that thing. Someone she hates.)

Out of curiosity, Philster, what character are you playing?

If you haven't decided and are looking for an unused class, here are the classes in play:

-Ranger
-Thief
-Barbarian
-Monk (NPC)
-Barbarian/Monk
-Wizard
-Cleric
-Druid
-Knight/Bard

Assassin, Illusionist and Paladin are the only never-used classes. We had a couple Fighters in the past.

Oh, cool! I'm curious about what god(dess) (s)he'll follow now. Having a paladin around should be interesting.

The Detect Evil skill will be really interesting…!

Hey guys...I'll update today if you guys don't mind me doing so without a map. That's been the bottleneck since I'm swamped at work and just haven't had time to make one. I prefer to have them for battles, but if everyone is cool without one for this fight we'll move ahead.

No map is okay for this one assuming it's just the two dark elves. As long as everyone understands that shooting arrows into the fray makes friendly fire more likely than not, the lack of a map shouldn't cause confusion.

"He is looking at me again, why is he always looking at me! Everytime he chants to his god before we meet the enemy he looks at me! I'm not paranoid!" (Aliron Neutril Evil)

Come to think of it, I don't know anyone elses alignment. Am I the only evil?

Our evil characters are gooder than some of the good characters. Maybe SP will shift evil alignments to neutral due to all those in-game good deeds. That or the naive giant nun will vouch for them.

BALDY: "Huh… your evil detector must be broken. Maybe you sat on it when it was in your back pocket."

PALADIN: "Wha—WHAT? No, lady. It's not a thing. I'm guided by heavenly voices."

BALDY: "Yeah, I used to have a voice in my head, too. But now she's out of my head." (points to Nissa) "So we know I'M not crazy."

Ha- i actually might plan on Batos being some sort of evil maybe. He's gonna be a bit of a bloodthirsty fellow when eh attains elven form again except when he's around Keit. And his father will be first on his hit-list.

Working on the update. When I got to the hotel last night the internet wasn't working. Seems to be fine now (maybe since hardly anyone is up yet :) ).

Aliron isn't as good as you think he is. Maybe true neutril, but good, probably not.
Although he hasn't done anything evil for a while. Might have to find some evil to keep in the evil.
Although he could still worship Ag and be true neutril.
(Aliron is definately not lawful.):throwball:

Looks like the elf will have no help. @SP, if the elf doesn't have a CON bonus and fails the CON save, I'll just finish the move we PM'd about so we can move on.

@Everyone else, I'm not trying to pull any "he's mine" crap or anything. There's an efficient use of grappling I'm hoping to try out. It may prove useful in the next room, depending on the situation.

Safe and sound in Knoxville! Internet seems not too bad here this time. Still dunno how often I can post, given I'll be spending a lot of my time here doing various fun things with my friends, but I'll try to keep up. Also, Steer, this laptop is working very well. ^^

An interesting observation (which I'm posting now mostly because I need a break from making materials for work)…

Does Masama get +1 to hit with unarmed attacks from his Iron Fist skill?
