Both systems are new to me, so I don't have a preference now. When the next fight comes up, will you post a newbie's explanation of the d20 system?

I'm enjoying this play test and the light-heartedness of the RPG a lot! I'm not having too much trouble with Fate, the rolls make sense, and I get how to attack and defend. Damage and Fate Points I'm still figuring out, same with the Consequences, but that may be because I'm not too experienced with RPGs in general.

Lucky Dila hasn't been hit with any melee attacks, she's only good at ranged/sneak type stuff, so she'd get clobbered :D Still not sure what to do about stunts. I don't want to add anything to Shoot/Stealth per se, because her bonuses seem to give her a pretty good advantage already. Not sure what else would make sense.

@Dila, glad to hear you're enjoying the game.

@Noma, glad you hear you're up for a simplified version of Fate.

@Ruby, you're rolls are all correct. Fight can be used to defend against fighting. Lily uses athletics (which dodges anything physical) because she's a better athlete than she is a fighter. Ireth gave her shield maiden a +4 in fight, so of course Diana will be awesome with a shield! You basically use the better skill if two skills can accomplish the same thing.

I'm thinking of re-posting the latest turn so everyone sees the Zelda hearts. We'll still roll the exact same way, so it won't be a game-breaker to change the displays. I have an idea for boosts that should make what you do with them intuitive, but I need everyone to actually see it.

My main question with the new system is: can you only roll with # qualities that are listed on the card Legendary Sidekick prepared for your character?

There are 20 skills. Eighteen are on this list:

Default Skill List | Fate RPG SRD

If a skill is on this list, but not on your sheet, you can use it. The sheet only lists the ones you have a bonus in. The others are just +0.

The exception is the two skills that are not part of the standard Fate system, but that we're using in this game: Magic and Flight. You can only use Magic if your character takes the magic skill.

Skills not on your sheet can be rolled without a bonus ("4u1" or "4u1+0"), with two exceptions: FLIGHT and MAGIC. Anyone who starts the game without magic can learn magic, though you should have an NPC or player teach the skill. Flight can only be learned if you're a flightless pixie or wings mysteriously grow on your back.

If we stick to simplified Fate, this makes it easy to decide when Diana's wings grow. When Ireth spends a skill point on flight, she can have the skill!

PS- I'll wait for Devor's roll then update with Zelda hearts. Once you see the display, I'll tell you what's going on with the boosts, though the way I display them may be self-explanatory.

On the current map,

If anyone's confused, each of the yellow *s represents a +2 boost. You are free to use the boost on any roll. It's one boost per roll, but you can give boosts to both rolls if you roll twice.

Going forward,

I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of stacking boosts, but I'd rather have stacked boosts add 1 point, so it's *+2, **+3, ***+4.

Another option: we could just make the boosts worth 1 point, then stacking doesn't have that funny math. In that case, let me know if you prefer a graphic display, or just the number +1, +2, +3... as seen on the alternate map.

In either case, my thought is to have you start the map with either no boosts or one, and you need to earn the others with extremely successful rolls, consequences, etc.

Every once in a while, I experiment with sprite art.
80-Sprite.png

I don't know if I'll use it for this game, but if I have a whole army of sprites... maybe.

Apparently I'll have a little more opportunity to post than I originally thought. My local library is open on Saturdays during the fall/winter. Sadly, Wednesdays and Sundays are still out. :/

Having two maps isn't a problem. If you guys can figure out how to split the party, I'll get both maps up and we can begin round 2.

To speed things up, if one player wants to suggest which three take the caves, which three take the hill outdoors, that'll help. Then if no one replies by the time the map is ready, Lily second's that players opinion and you're stuck with it! Or if anyone thinks my guess about how you might split up is accurate, we can run with it:

As of now, I'm assuming Mariya = cave, Furtano = hill. Fenella would likely follow Mariya and maybe a shooter in each direction. It makes the most sense for Lily to take the outdoor path since she'd know the area best. I guess Ariel would follow her and Dila would remain in the cave?

Dila's "Notice" roll was really good, so I thought she earned some useful information. It's a bit of a spoiler, but then it isn't. You knew you had to kill a bunch of bad guys. Now you know how many. (Remember, they don't know of the orcs you already killed.)

I think Ireth has no computer access today, so Devor, if you can out-roll a 1, let's say players on the hill get the first move. If you roll exactly 1, it depends on what you attempt.

Basically, Stealth vs. Notice is being used to determine initiative. Fenella just made it, winning initiative for the cave people. Anyone in the cave can take their turns now. I mean attack. You can talk to the enemies, if you really want to, but… what would you say to these creeps?

I do have computer access today! ^^ It's Thursday, so the library will be open this afternoon. And my little sis lent me her Chromebook for a while on top of that. I just posted with Ariel -- hope that doesn't muck up anyone's intentions.

It shouldn't. Players on both maps have the first move, so go ahead and start your battle turns. You can shoot from where you are (assuming you stand back from the cliff to get a good angle) or head for the hill. Scaling the wall is an option (which might be Lily's move).

Something just occurred to me. In the last battle we had Ariel using a sharp rock against the orcs in close combat, but I think she has a knife of some sort as part of her Huntress gear. That's what I remember seeing in the Class Info thread, anyway.
