((The Shaman described the way to get to the lower level, where their leader resides. Based on her description, it is down the path Nod saw across the lake, which should take you to a corridor that winds deeper into the earth to the next level of the complex)).

I look at Cadell. "We should be able to salvage pieces of cloth and leather from my torn clothes. If you could help me with the shoes and my other damaged things that would be great." I smile.

I nod. "I cannot guarantee a perfect job, but I will do my best. If nothing else, it will be a chance to practise, so perhaps I can do better later."

Nissa, it looks like we need to cross the water. Not a lot of room in that boat. You think you can fly across and see how far we need to go?

It's worth a try, Baldy. I'm happy to help you and the others. Just don't give me your only light source! If I'm about to get attacked, I'll drop the torch in the drink and disappear.

Good. I don't want you to get hurt.

I don't want YOU to get hurt. Let's not forget which of us is the immortal.

Algernon joins the discussion while continuing to whittle oars to the best of his ability… or to the best the materials at hand allow.

"Uh, how much rope we got altogether? Mine's about, uh, six o' these"—he stretches his arms to full extent: quick math will tell anyone he means fifty feet. "Anybody got some more? It'd make the trip easier, if we got enough. First group goes an' lands, then one person could hand-over-hand the boat back. Second group'd come faster, 'cause the first guys could just haul the boat, an' all the guys in it would haveta do is push away from the walls.

"An' if the first group runs into trouble, they could be hauled back faster'n rowing.

"If we got enough rope, that is."

Quite the speech from the country cousin. He stops to inspect his work, finds a place that can benefit from some more planing.

"I don' think we need ta worry 'bout more fish-lizards. Not if the doubletrites was usin' the lake norm'ly ta get around. Though I don' think Mauve oughta be swimmin', 'cause if there is any more, they'd get her first easy."

((You're a bit behind, Phil. Nissa's been and gone. ^^))

((So he's talking to himself again. So what's new? :p ))

((…if anything, I find that even more appropriate than if he had responded to Nissa while she was here.… :D ))

((Yeah, I meant to do that...:)

I saw that Baldy was talking to her like two posts up so I assumed she was still there.))

I look to Baldhart. "I think I'm seeing things. Did you slip me some berries?"

The party is ready to venture further into this underground abode is short order. Algernon is able to fashion a couple of passable oars from the materials present in the room. There is no sound from the outside hallway while the party prepares itself, and nothing tries to come in through the door.

Moving back toward the water's edge is simple enough. Algernon carries the boat back. The dead lizard yielded a large amount of hide - too much for the group to carry with it without being hindered. Small portions can be carried and the rest stashed somewhere for safe-keeping.

The water is placid upon your return. The corpse of the skinned creature lays where you left it, and nothing seems to have disturbed it. You can't see the passage that Nod spotted from where you stand, but you know it isn't far. The boat still presents a difficulty, however, in that not all of you can fit on it once.

The only sound in the cavern is that made by the group members.

"Anybody else know how t' row? Think I prob'ly get to be the one paddlin' the fairy."

((Fortunately, that was spoken, so no one knows how he might have spelled that.))

I shake my head and shrug, with only a hint of regret. "Don't look at me. I am at home in woodlands, not on water. Besides, I left my prosthesis behind." My bow and arrows were left as well, though I still bear my sword and Rydh's shield.

"I can row, but I think I ought to stand guard while we get most of us over there."

Not that we need guarding, particularly. It seems like the top level of these tunnels is now devoid of life, other than us of course.

"Nod, she was really here! She always has been! And… she's half halfling. I thought you'd like her."

As Mauve and Cadell pick of pieces of cloth, I say to Mauve, "Do you mind if I grab some of the pieces for my little friend? Oh, Mauve! Isn't she precious?" Baldy, didn't you see how serious Mauve looked when I was talking to her? Oh? I hadn't noticed.

I tell Algernon, "I can be one of the rowers. If five of us go, including Nod, we have five left. Only one rower needs to go back to make the other trips. Nod can make all of the trips without taking room away from anyone else, so there is always an archer. Algernon, would you like the honor of being our ferry man? Or shall I do all of the rowing?"

I tell the group, "Nissa really loves the idea of helping us out. It's not what a Valkyrie normally does, but she believes our Goddess allowed her to return from the grave to do more than have a fireside chat. We can have her look ahead to see how far and how safe is it to travel by boat, or we can ask for her help later.

"I'm not a magic user, so once I call her, it will be a very long time before she can use my magic again. Nissa assures me that there is no risk of corruption; otherwise, she would never have used my mana to resurrect herself. But my point is that we can only call for her once."

I feel so giddy! "Have you ever seen such a lovable creature?"

((Fortunately, that was spoken, so no one knows how he might have spelled that.))

"What the fairy do to you?"

"I have some rope, wit one of dem mountain hooker things." I try to suppress a laugh, offering the rope and grappling hook.

"I think we should have at least one person in the boat with an arrow ready, no matter which trip it is."

((If someone wants, feel free to make an executive decision and give me the occupants of the first boat trip :) )).

((Executive Decision! (well, sort of.)

The first boat: Algernon, Baldhart, Mauve, Sir Matthew, Nodrick, Darin.

Second boat: Algernon, Rydh, Aliron, Cadell, Ankari.

Is that everyone?

Edit: Nope, forgot Darin. Fixed!))

((Rydh has a fox, a chicken, and a bag of corn, that he has to get across the water. The boat will only hold two things at a time. If Rydh leaves the fox with the chicken, the fox will eat the chicken. If Rydh leaves the chicken with the corn, the chicken will eat the corn. How does he get them across?)).
