Thanks Button Added

A "thanks" button has been added to the forums. You can use it to show appreciation to another member for a useful post.

Whenever you thank a member it will add 5 points to their reputation score. Whenever a member's reputation reaches 100 points another green bar will be added to their reputation display.

This should be a fun addition to our reputation system.

Is this only available for new posts, or can we go back and "give thanks" for posts submitted before the feature was enabled?

We can go back and 'give thanks'. Already tried it and it works. I'm pretty glad to be able to do this. Seems like a stronger way to say "thank you for putting so much effort into explaining this to me and helping me out."

I agree with this comment - I think this feature will be useful in showing appreciation and approval of other people's posts

Well, now that's it here, let's spread the rep! This will be cool for frequent members to see how that green bar grows while we discuss all that there is to discuss here.

That might prove useful. No need for extra posts saying "thank you for your answers" anymore.
There's one problem though: I've used the button a few times and now it seems to be gone again. Is there a limit for how many times you can use it per day? Because I've been looking through my old threads and have added quite a few "thank yous".

I have a question. When/if members get Reputation, where would you go to view total Rep count? Or would it just be listed under your avatar?

You get a notification when you get thanked for a post. That will take you to your settings screen where you can see your total reputation points. At any time you can go back to your settings to see your reputation total.

As it turns out it takes 100 reputation points for a green bar to be added, not 50. Another bar is added with each 100 points attained. I've corrected the first post in this thread to reflect this. This number is apparently hard-coded in the software.

In response to this fact, I've made another adjustment. Now a member's total reputation points is displayed above the green bars. This way members can conveniently see their progress, which will encourage more people to use the rep system.

I've also disabled the possibility of giving negative reputation in response to a post. We strive to maintain a positive atmosphere here, and the giving of negative rep has been a source of conflict on some other forums.
