Well, here it is. All this concern that the new Chat Feature is going to dramatically affect the posts. I think not, dear friends. All is well and will continue to be so.

Your thoughts?

It's fine, just so long as Moderators don't feel the need to keep a public chat open constantly. Since it works on invites, you're going to pester people into turning it off all together, and that's when the cliques start to form.

For instance, imagine seeing this post if you weren't just in the chat.

I don't want to be too negative (and still am) but I could have done without the chat. I've looked in once or twice and both times there were discussions that might have interested me at some time but not at the moment. Unlike forum postings, they'll be gone by then however. But if it's the wish of the majority, I don't want to steal anyone's fun. ;)

I Think the chat feature will only get used for idle chit chat and a bit of fun. The normal forum stuff won't be affected because people still like time to think about what they want to say before posting on things that matter to them.

On forums I've been on where chat functions have been enabled the forums and chat-rooms have always been separate but complimentary. So no worries on that front I think.

Although I can see the arguements against it, I say stick with it. I've really enjoyed chatting with some of the people that use it. I'm on mostly every Mythic Chat that pops up. I think it's great if you want to ask a question and get the answer to it. Say you had a quick question on prepositions or semi-colons, you could just ask a participant in the chat instead of creating an entire thread.
