Major Server Upgrade

The Mythic Scribes server underwent a major upgrade today. We're now on more powerful hardware with SSD drives.

The result should be greater stability and slightly faster load times. Please give us a few days to get the kinks out, and let us know if you notice anything out of the usual.

Is there a way to upgrade the showcase?

Trying to convert a word document into the showcase threads, is like stepping 20 years back in time.

After posting one showcase of my WIP, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Congratulations on the server migration. Those are always a bit like leaping from one trapeze bar to the next. Without a net! Well, there's the Net, but ... oh, never mind.

Is there a way to upgrade the showcase? Trying to convert a word document into the showcase threads, is like stepping 20 years back in time.

The issue is the hidden markup that Word adds to documents. When you copy a Word document into the message editor, it doesn't know how to interpret the Word-specific markup.

One trick to get around that is to copy the document into Notepad first, and then copy that into the post editor. That strips the hidden markup from the text.

Search and replace paragraph breaks with two paragraph breaks. (Look under "special characters" when find-and-replacing in Word.)

Then copy and paste a section under 10k characters.

Not sure what other barriers there are? Also, that's what you have to do when posting writing online basically anywhere...

Edit because ninja: I've never experienced markup issues copying from Word. From a GoogleDoc yes, but not Word.
