Genre savvy characters

I have just realized that I have the oppritunity to for my main character and people with him to be genre savvy, and even wrong genre savvy later in the story arc. Not breaking the fourth wall, but the character knowing he is in a kind of low fantasy world and thinkinghe knows how to act.

What sorts of things particular to fantasy should I pull in?

Not an answer to your question, but along similar lines: my SF characters are often avid readers of SF/fantasy/etc. So when they get into situations that would have obvious situations to all us readers, they simply refer to the same things we've read.… ;)

That is sorta what I have here. They have seen and read fantasy books and have been thrust into a world that, on the surface, is a pre industrial revolution civilization.

As I have looked into this a bit more, it looks like most genre savvy characters also have comic relief built in, even when they are wrong. Sarcastic, and that stuff but funny.
