I clearly remember watching the original. It was powerful enough that I resist watching the re-make. Maybe eventually.
Small factoid on the original: the network was so unsure of the thing, they scheduled it on consecutive nights, a thing never done before, figuring that if it bombed, at least it would be over with quickly. Turned out, it built *huge* excitement in part because of that.
