This is something I wish I had considered before I published my second novel. My first book "Ritual of the Stones" did better than I had hoped both in sales and well received reviews. Full of confidence I plunged into the second novel releasing it a year later. Since then I have released book...
Hey Chesterama thanks for the reply. That is an interesting article attached to your thread. It seems a this other author has added a few other books now, which are now over 100 pages long. He has now got 16 titles above mine.
Good afternoon all,
My name is Rob Donovan and I'm currently writing my 5th novel. Since 2011 I've released on average one book a year. Sales have been reasonable if not brilliant (better in the UK). I do some advertising on social media but mostly I've been happy with getting at least a few...
I'm not a lover of coffee but one of my favourite things to do is to go to Starbucks first thing in the morning and write for an hour whilst sipping coffee. There is something about the ambience that I love. Other favourite venues are country pubs and golf club houses.
I like somewhere that is...
Sometimes the comedy comes from how the straight laced characters react to the comic relief. For instance, if the bard makes an inappropriate comment at a sensitive time, have everyone turn away and leave the room leaving the bard to his embarrassment could be amusing. Or maybe, the widower...
I'd say go for it but be prepared for the hard work to start as soon as you publish. Getting noticed is the hardest thing to do but nothing beats the feeling of the first sale and first 5 star review on Amazon. Good luck.
I agree with everything that has been said. Profanity has its place if it fits the character speaking. I try not to use it too casually although my first book did have a minor character called "Ucking Alan," who was labelled that because of his excessive use of "F-word."
Making up phrases helps...
It is hard to strike the balance. I began a blog once I knew I was in the final stages of drafting my first novel. I wanted to document the process and looking back it was rewarding to see just how much time and effort the process was. However, I also knew I needed to maintain interest in the...
Hi ArenRax/Speculativejester,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. All the books are available on Amazon for the Kindle and in paperback. Here is the blurb for Ritual of the Stones:
Over the kingdom of Frindoth hangs the shadow of the Gloom, a wraith-like creature that emerges every twelve...
Morning Folderol,
I think I would get some very odd looks if I said "Howdy" to the people in West Wickham. They are more of a, "Good morning to you, isn't the weather just ghastly?" type of people. Not sure where Howdy came from, it just felt like a "howdy" moment - whatever that is.
I've...
Thanks Svrtnsse and good luck on the novel. Someone warned me that once I completed the first draft the hard work was just beginning. It was good advice but I found once the book was published the hard work started. Getting yourself noticed is that hardest thing.
CupofJoe - thanks, that is...
Just wanted to say a big hello to you all. I've recently discovered this fantastic site and have been impressed with how friendly everyone seems.
My name is Rob and I'm married and have two boys. I live in West Wickham just outside London. I released my first novel in 2013 and followed that...
