I haven't seen this but will it confuse a reader? I couldn't say. As long as the story works, then historical fiction exists, why not historical fantasy? I'd just be concerned if you're hoping to publish traditionally then it might be hard if your book doesn't fit into a genre. Go into a book...
Maybe certain lands have been bestowed on him and he gets an income from them? I think as long as you set up "rules" of your world a reader will believe what you do in the world rules. After all, this is fantasy. I know as a reader I don't nit-pick details as long as the world "rules" are...
Can you add any parts pertinent to story at different parts of the story? I found I was more engaged from "innumerable nights..." but definitely ask the questions raised above.
