Character Response to Magic Agree. Getting in the head of a character slamming into magic, going how did that happen, why, everything it takes to let the reader experience the marvel.

Clever idea, shifting first POV with chapter breaks. May steal that idea. Third feels so distant to me.

Wanting, needing to beat your forehead on a kitchen counter, yes, that would be bad writing. (Not being figurative here. Joined a critique group and one of the submissions was so freakin' bad, even after four tries, I opted for the granite.)
