Thanks for your answers.
I would post the story to showcase, but its not written in english, so translation would take some time.
I have written the chapter now for around 4 times. Each and every time it has obviously improved, but the main idea is the same.
I actually started a completely...
I am starting my fantasy-story with a 20-sheet long opening chapter. As I am going to sometime in the future send the story to a publisher, I am trying to make the introduction chapter as good as possible.
My doubts are in the structure mostly. I start off with the main character slowly...
For my writings, I usually take half a year break from my novels. During that time I have always learned a lot and the first draft seems pretty bad, making it easier to find the bad parts.
Guess the good old units work then. I mostly use them for example telling how far away something is. It really sounds a bit odd for a medieval character to say "The city is x kilometers away", since the unit doesn't fit the current time.
In a nutshell the ancient Roman ones are probably the...
Hi!
I've been wondering how people usually do measurements and distances in fantasy, especially in medieval fantasy.
Using terms like meters or miles kinda make sense, but in the other hand they don't quite fit the era or fictional world. Has anyone gotten a good solution, or is everyone...
Yea, fictional names are basically free to use. Unless you make a fictional computer company named "abble", you are pretty good to go.
The basic rule is, if a common person doesn't recognize anything from the name, it doesn't matter at all. Actually, it doesn't matter at all anyways.
I...
You could pick famous weapons from stories and novels like Game of Thrones or LoTR.
Excalibur, Sting, Lightbringer, etc etc
For a gamer, weapons from Halo are pretty famous. (the laser-sword-thingy)
In my current story, I have tried my best to make the beginning pretty normal, but still have enough action. As in the original post, the main character is travelling through the city and remembering things. He is also travelling very fast to a murder location. I think that is pretty good...
Hi!
I was just wondering how people prefer starting their stories? I have a bad habit of making and overly-complicated introduction and explanation, and then starting the actual story a few pages later.
I usually like the ones that go straight to action, though they are not what I'd...
I thought I'd share here this 9 hour compilation of inspirational music I found on youtube. Dunno if any of you are familiar with it already, but it is pretty good for any sort of fantasy. At least it has made my writing much more enjoyable. Cheers.

There definitely are some points at which different people are the protagonist's enemies. In the end, every single character in the story has good intentions, but they are all each others enemies in a way. I think the reader has to "choose a side." Something experienced in Game of Thrones for...
I might have written that a bit badly. (too late lol) Basically two protagonists are each others enemies and making each others journey harder. And all that happens in a middle of a civil war. I personally would call the war the actual "antagonist", but it doesn't affect the story enough to be...
Well the funny part is that I have two protagonists. They both are on a quest to save a kingdom, but they are also each others enemies. Neither of them is the real antagonist, since they are both thinking each other as their enemies.
