I must have 20 books on outlining novels and, although I have tried and tried, they just aren't for me. I prefer to just write and see where the story goes. Although I do research to make sure my story details are correct and I will admit to doing some maps when necessary.
Which is your...
I am at the point in my WIP where my MC has already suffered her traumatic childhood and has started to show magical tendencies. She is eight years old. Now it's time for her Aunt to take her to an island for mystical training. This part of the story is necessary but adds nothing so I want to...
I actually agree with you. Course that's easier said than done in most cases but I share your opinion. I have never figured out why those two simple words, 'just write' can cause such emotional upheaval. Those two little words can cause normally rational adults to break down in tears. Sometimes...
I may differ from most but I think that if racism pops into your mind when you read that sentence or description of the characters, then it racist. This is one case where I think the author is responsible for what he KNOWS the reader will interpret. If he means it to be racist than there's no...
My favorite place to write is outdoors. Be it sitting on the deck or at the park. Sometimes I just sit by an open window or if the weather is rainy, I put on my outdoor ambient sounds and write.
Even when I don't have my iPad or a notebook with me, I can write in my head. I can see the words...
Keep writing. No one can see what the future holds for them. If you have stories in your head that need to be told, keep writing. Some days your writing will stink. Keep writing. Others may hate what you write. Keep writing. You can not know if you are good at something until you put forth an...
I think it's been three months or so since I last entered this writers paradise. I had/have a serious case of writers block. Funny thing is, all during that non-productive phase I still had moments of genius when portions of my novel would appear to me. Lots of little stories. The characters...
Thank you for your helpful post. I have given out too many 'thank you's ' so I will give those I missed theirs in the next few days.
I needed these words of encouragement. Thank you all ...:)
Maybe he has no royal blood but was the result of an affair. Their mother so wanted this child to be a future king she kept it secret. Only some old hag living in the woods knows the truth since she helped with the birth and, while in pain, the queen told her. The prince finds out when the old...
I use to love Stephen King until one day when I was reading his latest novel, I saw a pattern...almost a formula. I then realized that all of his books had similar results. The settings changed, the characters were different but they all seemed similar. Everytime i read one of his books it was...
I am a fan of manga! Good luck on your writing!
As for your question, I write what I enjoy reading. I write for me. I think that should be the number one rule for writers. If you don't have an interest in what you write, why would anyone else?
I could never write a romance book, I don't read...
I agree. It's hard to fit more than two main characters in a short story. Plus depending on the age of the child, it can be confusing. I sometimes write stories , before I got writers block, for a seven year old little boy. In my fantasy stories for him, I make him the main character.
