I totally agree, this is going to be one of those things i will read after a chapter is written and think "Maybe i can add something from that book I'll go and have a look at it."

A thing that I do to get ideas for creatures (and other things)
is downloading wallpapers tagged as "Epic" or "fantasy".

I have recently started reading "A Game of Thrones" by George R. R. Martin, and "The Way of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson.
