Testing New Chat System

Nimue

My Chrome is version 43.0.2357.134 m.

I've got AdBlock Plus installed, but I'd whitelisted MS already, and I tried disabling the extension completely and still nothing showed up, so.

Thanks for the info. I've been researching this problem throughout the day, and am trying to zero in on the cause.

I suspect that something is blocking the chatbox for certain members. Let's try a few more things to pinpoint the issue.

1) First, try connecting to the chat system directly by clicking on this link. When you click on it, what do you see?

2) The chat system that we are testing is called Chatwee. Please visit the Chatwee website at chatwee.com, and you should see the chat system pop up on the bottom left corner of the screen. It will be a blue bar that says "We are Chatwee", and when you click on it, the chatbox should pop up. Is it there?

3) Make sure that you have Java enabled on both your system and browser. The chat system runs on java, and if you have java disabled, you won't see anything. You can verify that you have java enabled here.

Please try these steps and report your results in this thread. This info will make a tremendous difference in resolving this.

Also, let us know if you are running an ad blocker and/or internet protection suite that may be blocking the chat system.

Thanks.

So
1.) White blank page
2.) I saw the chatbox at the bottom, clicked and was in some room.
3.) Java is set up for my system and browser.
4.) Still nothing on Scribes

Okay, so with AdBlock enabled, I see a blank white page when I click the link for Mythic Chat. With AdBlock generally disabled, though, I can see the chat page, and people chatting--however, I got the message that "the admin has disabled guest login" and I don't seem to have any option to log in, unless I'm missing it? I was automatically logged in as a guest, and the page was greyed out. I had the menu option to sign out and did that. Now it says "you are offline" and gives me no menu options (an empty black bubble).

Still not seeing any sign of the chat client on the MS forums.

When I click on the ChatWee link with AdBlock enabled, I see the page, but not the chat app. With AdBlock disabled, I see the chat app and people chatting. (It logs me in as a guest) I like how it looks!

I think this does have something to do with AdBlock. All I have installed protection-wise is Windows Defender and MalwareBytes. Java is installed and enabled.

Edit: Oof, that Java page gave me this message:

We have detected you are using Google Chrome and might be unable to use the Java plugin from this browser. Starting with Version 42 (released April 2015), Chrome has disabled the standard way in which browsers support plugins.

I'll look into enabling it in Chrome properly...

Okay, so I got Java to work by following these directions and also made sure to install the 64-bit version, which I'm not sure that I had before. So the plugin on the Java page is now working, although it requests permission to run. (And Chrome is giving me a dire warning about Java not being supported in the future. Wtf Google)

Now I can see the Mythic Chat when I click on the link, even with AdBlock generally enabled. However, I still don't seem to have any option to log in, and I still don't see the app on the forums. I'm also not getting a Java popup requesting permission to run, so I'm not 100% that's functioning in this case.

Is anybody with a current version of Chrome actually able to see it?

Ah! After enabling Java, I cleared my cache, logged out, and closed my browser again. Now I can see the app on the site! And I can see people's avatars, which weren't showing up before. Howeverrr, I'm still not logged in and don't seem to have the option, so I can't actually chat.

Try logging out of Mythic Scribes, clearing your cookies and cache, and logging back in. Let us know if that works now.

Uh, I did that and now it's gone again. :<

The link version is the same. The app on chatwee.com is still there.

It's possible that Chrome is just screwing with me.

I've put in a support request with Chatwee. Hopefully, they can help us resolve this soon. If not, we'll have to look for a different chat solution.

OK, I'm narrowing in on the problem.

There's a pattern. All of the members who are unable to see the chat system are connecting from IPv6 addresses. Moreover, those who are able to use the chat system are connecting from IPv4 addresses.

The chat system is having difficulty with the IPv6 addresses, so I'm going to look for a workaround.

How long is the trial run estimate for? I get the feeling the new chat is more active and easier to take part in (at least for those it works for), but it could be it's just the system being new and shiny and all. It'll be interesting to see if it keeps being active after a bit of time.

If you're using Chrome, go to your History, click "clear browsing data" and you will see the cache deletion as one of the options.

For Firefox, you have to go to Options, select Advanced and then click on the Network tab. In the Cached Web Content section is where you will be able to select "Clear Now".

I *think* that I solved the problem.

If you are one of the members who have been unable to see chat, please log out of Mythic Scribes, clear your browser's cache and cookies, and log back in.

Please let us know if it's working now, or if it is still not appearing for you.

I wish I could say the same. I've gone through all the steps (cleared cache, log out and in, etc.), running IE 11.0.9600.17914, and I'm still just getting the white box on both our site and the other page. *sad face*
