Working on a map. This will give a bit more time for others to respond as well.

Well… Nissa's on the way to Bressel and co. and Baldhart's by the entrance to the cave. I assume if Ankari and Alin are discovered they can call out to Baldy. Batos and elves (Cadell, Liadan, Keit) will hear what Baldy, Mauve and Masama might miss.
If there's a fight where the children are, Nissa's on the way with her torch lit, and she has one oil bottle. She's also got her cutlass and… well, all of the berries are with her. So the good news is we have healing on both sides.

A map is up in the Side Trek threads. I'm working on posts in that thread and the main one as we speak.
@SP, the original Nissa avatar will do for now. I'm starting over on her update, which was incomplete anyway. No rush on updates since the other characters have art (including Keit's high school drawing for Batos).
Maybe I'll just upload all at once when I'm happy with them, and if they're better than Rod's he gets an update too.

I have to go to a band blowout today so im goign to bring my sketchook and try to give you a clearer idea of what my characters look like in this game (they are slightly different than my book design)

You can move 6 squares on the map.
Basic attack for you is 1d20+1+1+1 to hit, and damage is 1d10+1+1.
The +1s are:
+1 STR for putting 13-15 points in strength [hit AND damage]
+1 IF your character's weapon specialization is "bastard sword" [hit AND damage]
+1 to hit, since the fighter class is the only class that has a base-to-hit bonus at level 1 [hit ONLY]
You can also charge, but the enemy needs to be 6 squares away (maybe 5-7 squares away is acceptable). Charging adds +2 to hit, but you get a -4 AC penalty. Probably a moot point for this round since you're likely to go after the nearest targets.

Don't forget to look at the squares on the map while deciding on your actions :tongue:

Aren't they 5 feet/square? I did take a look on the quickstart before posting, because I tend to forget the rules, it said you can spend half your turn running (4x your movement= 2x your movement) and still attack. Unless I confused something Mauve could attack this turn.
If not let me know, she'd invert some actions and use magic before attacking, not after.

Yes, they're five-foot squares. You can move up to four times your movement rate at a dead run, but you can't attack doing that. You can move up to half your movement rate and still attack. If you're charging, you can move up to double your movement rate and still attack so long as you meet the requirements of a charge (i.e. unimpeded straight line of movement).
I'll keep those rolls as readied actions if I can't hit yet. The charge hits when you say it hits.

But... "Run: In this case movement is quadrupled. The character is considered to be moving very fast. As with normal movement, the character can take a half movement at the run rate and attack but take no other full round action." The quickstarter is very misleading then.

With monk speed, Baldy moves 10 sq. diagonal with is equal to the distance of 14 straight. If you don't use a mathy adjustment for diagonal BUT Baldy needs to slightly adjust her path, she can run in an almost straight line touching 11 squares. It's a slight arc but practically a straight line.
Yeah, if the charge can hit now, of course that's my preference.
EDIT - If that graphic in front of Baldy is a treetop, then I guess her path is truly unimpeded. She'd aim for the guy on the bottom, launching him into his buddy with a right leg kick.

Sorry about the Quick Start guide. I looked at it, and it is a PDF from 2007, when they were first developing the game. I have the second printing of the actual rule books from 2009, and it has undergone more changes since that time (though I've never upgraded).
I tend to think what is in the Quick Start guide is a mistake because it would be a departure from previous rule sets. I generally house rule the movement-in-combat rule to say you can move your full move and still attack (in fact, if you look at the sticky thread on Combat, under the movement section, that's what I have there). You can run up to four times your movement rate, but you can't attack in the same round.
It's hard to tell in the graphic, but the monsters were hiding in bushes and shrubs, which they are now behind. Baldy could barrel through the bushes, but a charge can only double your movement speed. I still thought that was too far...BUT...
Check my math. The way diagonals work generally is that every other diagonal counts at 2 squares. So if you move across 3 diagonals in a row you've moved twenty feet. A crude estimation, but that's how the d20 game system handles it.
If I'm not mistaken, Baldy's 70-foot movement with a charge, assuming she doesn't mind barreling through the bushes and getting scratched up, takes her right to the left-most opponent. So then she can do it. But a charge is a special attack and usually described as targeting a single defender. I don't think she can charge, move all that way, and attack both opponents. The idea of the bonuses to the charge is that you're focused on barreling toward a single opponent (which is why you also lose AC).

Fair enough. So I rolled 25 to hit instead of 22 then. (Same difference.) My second d20 roll was the miss. (*phew*) Can I still do her old knock-one-guy-into-the-other with the STR check like she's always done? Her goal is to prevent the enemy from running away. But of course, now I know: no combining combos with charges.

Nah, it's fine, thanks for clearing this up!
I tend to refer to the guide because it's faster and has more details, but it has its risks it seems. Okay, Mauve has to cover 8 squares. If it's +1 square each 2 that's 60 feet. Phew, exactly a charge. An useless one, unfortunately. At least she didn't break her legs jumping down the rocks, though she will only learn to not pull off this kind of thing when it goes wrong.

Sure. Situations like this, where you want to do something that might not be technically in the rules but are reasonable given what you are allowed to do, is a good time for a SIEGE check. I try to get people to do more of those to do creative things. So maybe Baldy can try one to knock the first creature into the second.
The STR check (17) was intended for that.
I'll miss her "impaling" charge, even if that only worked when the enemy actually died, and just made the death gory.
