Funny… now that Baldy responded to Liadan, it makes more sense that she's babbling so much with Bressel. She really doesn't want to talk about 'who her uncle is' in front of him, and what she just said to Liadan might've been a give-away. (Nissa doesn't think so.)

Somewhere in the forest…

Cadell: And every gnoll puppy will have free health care and a 5000 gold tax credit…

Ankari: Yo.

McBarker: (to Cadell) I thought you were coming alone.

Cadell: Funny. So did I.

McBarker: Well, go on anyway.

Cadell: And a place for every gnoll, and every gnoll in its place…

Liadan: Hello, darling.

McBarker: Wha—wait! Who is this now?

Cadell: It's okay. She loves me.

McBarker: Whatever. You were saying?

Cadell: And a right to education, and daily flea baths…

Mauve: (trips) Nature SUCKS!

McBarker: So do people. Cadell! Whatever you say next better impress me.

Cadell: Uh… (takes out drum) Drummity-drummity-drummity-drummity-drum…

And what does Mauve hope to gain by stalking Liadan (I assume she’s the elf you refer to)?

Who knows…?

The idea for confusing the gnolls' sense of smell is from Number the Stars. (And real life, but I learned of it through historical fiction.) Resistance members used handkerchiefs with cocaine to prevent Nazi dogs from sniffing out Jews in hiding. I'm not sure how they got the handkerchief to the snout without arousing suspicion. "I think your dog has a sniffle." (?)

In unrelated news, I got a whole new experience as a teacher today. One of my former students was shot and killed over the weekend. The worst part is how I kept trying to imagine possible wrong-place/wrong-time/bad-neighborhood scenarios when drug-deal-gone-bad was the obvious scenario (which was later confirmed to me by a student).

Thats terrible news baldy, unfortunately, it does not matter if you are rich, poor big or small, some people just go down the wrong road. It may well be fate, or just the way things work. It is a terrible shame, but these things do happen. What do you teach?

If you dont mind me asking what country is it your from?

I'm teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in the US, but in an urban district. Thankfully, I don't live in that district or anywhere close. A significant number of my students see the wrong road as the only road, and the education system does them a disservice by pretending improved test scores, high attendance and low suspension numbers will change that. I don't claim to have the solution myself, but we've systemized ignoring the problem, and in doing so our school has become a safe haven and place of business for the wrong crowd. There's also more money to be made in at-risk districts, so a lot of people are cashing in on this mess. The more I know about public education, the more I hate it.

On a happier note, here's my solution for the public school problem:

Problem solved for my kids.

(@Nihal, Ireth, and anyone else not from the US: a uniform like this^ normally means not at a public school.)

Do you mean this type of uniform in particular or having an uniform? Here it's rare to find one school that doesn't enforce the usage of uniforms, even the public ones. You differentiate the privates from the public by the color and crest, the public schools always uses the corporate color and crest from the state where it is based.

Most uniforms here are jeans + school t-shirt, but some have also specific pants and skirts. I've studied at one school that had sailor skirts.

About your student… honestly, sometimes I wonder how many of my worst classmates are still alive.

I almost had the 'honor' of being first to die in my graduating class when I was 21, but pneumonia would have been the cause.

I think the US is the only country that normally doesn't have a uniform for all primary/secondary schools, so I meant having a uniform is (usually) the mark of a private school. The type is typical of a Catholic school, at least where I live. I work at a public school that has uniforms, which is a growing trend in urban schools. The idea is to discourage gang colors. The result is that members can only use tattoos, red rosary beads, etc. to designate gang affiliation.

So, anyway… didn't mean to hijack the Dragon's Egg forum. Lemme try to keep my cynicism relevant to the game…………

Gnolls. They sure are ugly.

I think Liadan's mega distracted, and not by the scenery. Probably still pissed at Baldhart, not to mention scared for Cadell. How else would you explain those awful tracking rolls? D=

Steerpike, should I bring Cadell into the Side Trek thread now that Ankari has posted? He's probably still a good distance away yet, but then again, he is on a horse...

I'm going to update the thread today, and Ankari will hear Cadell coming. If Ankari wants to post before me that's fine too. I meant to get a post up yesterday, but I've had a touch of the flu and a long day at work to get something filed with the patent office, so when I got home last night I went to lay down (for what I intended to be a half hour or so) and it was all over :)

He hears Cadell, since Cadell is coming back into town on a horse and that's not going to be hard for Ankari to hear while he's tracking him.
